Wellness Week 2014: SOAR TO MORE!
Happy Wellness Week, the best week of the year! Which programs have you attended so far?? The University Wellness Program is excited to ‘SOAR to MORE’ with you this year by offering several exciting events to help you find Wellness in your everyday lives. See below for the whole list of programs, and get involved this week!
(All Week) Monday, February 17th– Friday, February 21st; RAC Lobby: Quality of Life Collection Drive– You have the chance to help improve the quality of life for others! Drop off items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and socks in order to help a Southeast Georgia migrant farmworker.
Monday, February 17th 11 AM- 1 PM, University Store Plaza: Wellness Week Kickoff – Are you ready to kick off Wellness Week 2014 the right way? Games, music, a Healthy Pizza Eating Contest, and much more! Help us SOAR to MORE this year! Register here for the Healthy Pizza Eating Contest!
Monday, February 17th ; 7 PM, RAC- Mind/Body Studio: Meditation- Everyone needs a little YOU time. Join The University Wellness Program for meditation in order to clear your mind and learn about balancing the 7 dimensions of Wellness.
Tuesday, February 18th; 6 PM, Old Biology Building 1119: GROW! – GROW! Takes a look at this new generation of sustainable farmers through the eyes, hearts and minds of 20 passionate, idealistic and fiercely independent young growers. In the film they speak of both the joys and the challenges involved in tending the land.
Tuesday, February 18th; 6-8 PM: Law and Disorder– The Office of Alcohol and Other Drugs is staging a mock trial on campus! See how abusing prescription drugs and a run in with the law can affect you.
Tuesday, February 18th; 6-8 PM, RAC Multipurpose Room: Massage 101- Join a Licensed Massage Therapist for an instructional class on the techniques of massage therapy. Register here with a friend!
Wednesday, February 19th; 10 AM- 2 PM, Russell Union: Live Well Fair- Check out vendors from the local community, along with on-campus organizations for an exciting wellness experience. During the Live Well Fair, you will be able to take part in various activities such as healthy cooking demonstrations, meditation, health screenings, and chair massages.
Wednesday, February 19th; 11 AM- 2 PM, Rotunda: Empty Bowl Project– Come grab a hand painted bowl from Free Spirit Pottery and fill it up with some tasty chili (regular and vegetarian). The bowl you select will be yours to keep in remembrance of all the Empty Bowls around the world. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the local food bank.
Wednesday, February 19th; 7-9 PM, RAC: Don’t Dis Ability- Join the Student Therapeutic Recreation Association for a game of wheelchair basketball! Grab a group of friends and join in on the fun!
Thursday, February 20th; 5 PM, Russell Union Theatre: Hot Wings, Hot Topics- Panel representatives from various highly recognized religions will engage with audience participants to discuss a variety of contemporary “hot topics” while enjoying hot wings! The purpose of this event is to promote mutual understanding and appreciation of diverse religions. Hear and discuss answers to gay marriage, abortion, and creationism versus evolution.
Friday, February 21st; 12 PM, Library 1300: Meditation- Everyone needs a little YOU time. Join The University Wellness Program for meditation in order to clear your mind and learn about balancing the 7 dimensions of Wellness.
Friday, February 21st; 6 PM & 8 PM, Russell Union Theatre: Movie Night—Friday Night Lights– The University Programming Board is hosting this FREE Friday night movie! Don’t forget to bring your student ID and a few dollars for popcorn while you end the week with a classic.
