Welcome back Eagle Nation! There is always something exciting about starting a new academic year at Georgia Southern. New classes, new professors, new goals and aspirations… With each semester, a new opportunity arises to recreate ourselves and start fresh. But with as much as we are evolving, so too is this beautiful campus we call home! Here is the 411 on what’s been going on since classes were in session:
“As of August 1st, 2014, Georgia Southern University will be a tobacco-free campus, in compliance with the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.”
That’s right! Beginning with this semester, every post-secondary institution under the University System of Georgia will be tobacco free. Not only does this provide the right to breathe smoke-free air, but the ban also provides respect for others and our environment! The ban includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, all forms of smokeless tobacco (i.e. dip), hookahs, and electronic cigarettes. Main campus isn’t the only place where tobacco is prohibited either. Parking lots, on-campus housing, bus stops, the stadium, and the golf course are also included.

As much as we all like to dismiss those pesky emails at the top left corner of our “My Georgia Southern” accounts, the one from Campus Recreation and Intramurals should not be ignored. Typically, at SOAR we all sign a waiver to use the RAC. If you don’t remember because that was 6 years ago, it’s okay. We’ve got you covered. Instead, this year we must sign an online copy that l promise should only take 5 seconds. A hold will be placed on your account until you do and we don’t want to lose gains now do we?? Before it’s too Late, Meditate!
The new kid on the block this year for group fitness is… drumroll please… meditation! Not only can meditation help us lower our stress levels, but it can also help us perform better in class. Who doesn’t like higher grades? Meditation is offered on Tuesdays from 7:05 to 8:00pm in the Mind/Body Studio located on the first floor of the RAC.
